According to projections from World Population Review, India’s population has surpassed that of China making India the world’s most populated country.
As per WPR projections, India’s population was 141.7 crore as of the end of 2022 that is 50 lakh more than the 141.2 crore population declared by China on January 17.
India has 50 percent of the population which is under 30 years of age with projections to become the world’s fastest-growing major economy according to the UN.
According to WPR, India’s population increased to 142.3 crore people as of January 18 and although, population growth has slowed, it will still climb until at least 2050.
Despite India’s rapid economic growth pre-Covid and its relatively strong recovery from the pandemic, about 800 million people still rely on free food rations from the government, the largest program of its kind in the world.
