Assam Government’s message on ‘Silpi Divas’ calls January 17 as ‘Rupkonwar’ Jyotiprasad Agarwala’s Birth Anniversary, which in reality is celebrated to mark his Death Anniversary.
This message has been publicised as an advertisement across the regional newspapers of Assam – produced and created by the DIPR.
The message has been undersigned by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The message reads that the people of Assam offer their respect to ‘Rupkonwar’ Jyotiprasad Agarwala on his Birth Anniversary.
Jyotiprasad Agarwala, a noted and eminent Artist of Assam – directed and produced the first Assamese movie in history – Joymoti in 1935.
He was born on July 02, 1903, in the Tamulbari Tea Estate of Dibrugarh District.
He died on January 17, 1951, at the age of 47 years in Tezpur, Assam.
