The women’s football tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics Asian qualifiers is all set to start with round 1, in which India has been drawn in Group G along with Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.
The first round constituted seven groups: five with four teams each and two with three. Following the round-robin format, the group toppers will be directed into the second round.
Meanwhile, the round 1 matches are scheduled to be played at central venues between April 3 and 11, 2023.
Accordingly, in the second round, there will be seven group toppers who will join the top five best-ranked teams to be divided into three groups of four.
Similarly, in this round too, the table toppers will advance to the third and final round, along with the best-ranked runner-up. The round 2 matches are scheduled to be played between October 23 and October 31, 2023.
In the third and final round, the remaining four teams will be divided into pairs, and the winners of each pair will be qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics. These matches will be played in February 2024.
The Indian women’s national team has never been able to play on the Olympic stage till now. The team has only qualified once for the second round of the qualifiers, back in 2018 for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Despite the past records, the women’s team is optimistic for the future and aims to give their best shot on the field.
