Lionel Messi’s Instagram picture with the FIFA World Cup title became the most liked post by a sportsperson on the social media platform, beating the record set by one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s posts.
The picture has so far received more than 43 million likes in 17 hours. Ronaldo’s image of him and Messi playing chess had been liked 41.9 million times.
The post after the final win was accompanied by a long message in the caption. “CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!!!!!!! So many times I dreamed it, so much I wanted it, I can’t believe it…… Thank you so much to my family, to all who support me and also to all who believed in us.”
He added, ”We prove once again that Argentinians when we fight together and (are) united, we are able to achieve what we aim. The merit of this group, which is above individuals, is the strength of all fighting for the same dream that was also one of all Argentinians… We did it!!! LET’S GO ARGENTINA DAMN!!!!! We’re seeing each other very soon.”
Till now, Messi recorded more than 6 million followers on Instagram after Argentina’s title win with his follower count touching 398 million.
Meanwhile, Messi’s post surpassed Ronaldo’s post from last month which was an advert for Louis Vuitton ahead of the World Cup in which the Portuguese star and Messi were seen playing chess. That post got 41.9 million likes.
