All-time Assamese hit comedy movie ‘Local Kung Fu’ star Mahesh Deori, popularly known for his classic dialogue, has passed away.
“Haga lagise neki oi!”, this line from Local Kung Fu propelled Mahesh to cult status in Assam.
He was born in 1961. He did his schooling in Shillong, and he was the first of five siblings to get a job. He was also the first to own a car, an Ambassador numbered BHA 222 from his days in Mughalsarai.
As per reports, he had been suffering from lung cancer for many days.
Kenny Basumatary, the director of Local Kung Fu, wrote a heartfelt note for Deori. He wrote, “Haga lagise neki oi!” This line from Local Kung Fu propelled Uncle Mahesh to cult status in Assam. But even before that, he was the gold standard for father, husband, brother, uncle, etc. in our family.”
“He was diagnosed with lung cancer a few years ago. He kept his chin up right until the end. Despite being highly frail this last Christmas party, he still left his bed and danced a couple of steps with us,” he added.
He further said, “Momai would definitely have been in Local Kung Fu 3. But wherever he is now, he must be uplifting the place with his cheerfulness and his music. His guitar was buried along with him.”
