Districts In Assam Reduced From 35 To 31; Delimitation In 4-Districts Of The State

Assam Cabinet has taken a tough call approving delimitation in the state. The Cabinet has decided to reduce the number of districts from 35 to 31.

4-districts have been confirmed to undergo delimitation. These are, Bajali, Hojai, Biswanath and Tamulpur.

Henceforth, these districts have been merged with existing districts. Bajali with Barpeta, Hojai with Nagaon, Tamulpur with Baksa and Biswanath with Sonitpur.

This was announced by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma from New Delhi today, post-Cabinet meeting.

Chief Minister said, he is not happy with the call, but the Government has to make some tough calls at times in the interest of the state.
