Assam Government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Assam Police will launch massive operations against child marriage across the state.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press conference said, “Fathers of infants born by child marriage will be arrested under POCSO ACT in Assam.”
NFHS also revealed some statistics on child marriage in some districts:

👉🏻 South Salmara – 44.7%
👉🏻 Darrang – 42%
👉🏻 Nagaon – 42%
👉🏻 Goalpara – 41%
👉🏻 Bongaigaon – 41%
👉🏻 Barpeta – 40%
The total average for the state of Assam, for conducting marriages under 18 years stands at 31%.
National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) revealed 11.7% have expected a child after child marriage.
“Child marriage is the prime reason for abortion. Girl child marrying before the age of 14, the husband will be arrested under the POCSO act”, says CM Sarma.
